Depending on your circumstances, support may include Tax-Free Childcare, Universal Credit childcare costs, free childcare hours or help while you study. Use the GOV.UK childcare support checker to see which options may apply.
You’ll usually need to be working or returning to work. Your child must normally be 11 or younger, or 16 or younger if disabled, and your provider must be signed up to the scheme. Income and other eligibility rules also apply, and Tax-Free Childcare cannot be claimed at the same time as Universal Credit. Check the current rules on GOV.UK.
In England, all 3 and 4-year-olds can receive 15 hours of free childcare each week for 38 weeks. Eligible working parents may receive 30 hours for children from 9 months until school age, while some 2-year-olds can receive 15 hours if they or their family get extra support. Availability and start dates depend on the rules and your provider. Check free childcare on GOV.UK.
Provider requirements vary between schemes. Please contact us before applying or relying on a particular scheme so we can confirm what can be used for your chosen care arrangement.
Use GOV.UK for current guidance and application routes. Your local council can also explain locally administered support and provider availability.
